Can Dragons Help with Challenging Behavior in Preschool?

How’s it going?

I’m writing to have a quick chat with you today about dragons.

Ha! Yes, dragons.

I’m wondering if you’re reading dragon books, playing dragon games, doing dragon things?

Most preschoolers love things that feel magical and tap into their interest in pretend play.

Dragons, dinosaurs...sometimes witches or ghosts...fairies...monsters!

By using dragon/monster/etc books, songs, puppets, games, and other materials that capitalize on children’s interest magical and pretend things… you can connect with kids who are hard to connect with, gain engagement at large group time, and sometimes… even after just a few magical feeling books or activities, you can see kids who never listen or pay attention, starting to follow your lead!

So, I challenge you…

No matter what your curriculum plans are for the upcoming week or so - and especially if you're having trouble getting your group to gel or getting certain kids to listen - can you introduce a dragon?

...or, something else pretend and magical?

If you’re not sure where to start check out my Dragon Hunt playlist!

(Also includes a Tiger Hunt and a Bear Hunt).

If you work with toddlers or kids who scare easily, animals may work better.

How do YOU tap into young children’s love of things that are magical and pretend?

Let me and other readers know in the comments below.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
