Preschool Teachers: How’s Family Collaboration?

Most of us were taught that for best results we need to be consistent with strategies used by multiple adults who are interacting with a child, right?

I know I was told: consistency is key. 

Has a lack of consistency ever come up for you because your coworkers have a different approach or you can’t seem to agree on the best way to support a child?

How about working with children’s families?

Sometimes it’s hard to even have a conversation with a child’s family or get the parent to respond to an email, right?

…let alone have time to talk!

Many teachers tell me it’s COMMON for parents and families to have different ideas than we do about how to prevent and address challenging behaviors.

Have you experienced this? 

Of course, there are ALL sorts of reasons that family collaboration and consistency across home and school settings can be challenging (and I’m certainly not here to blame families).
